I'm Dr. Peyman Tashkandi, a double board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist in Beverly Hills. My practice is private pay and out of network with all insurance plans. I made that choice so I can give every patient the time, attention and care that good psychiatry needs.
After each visit, I give you a superbill, a detailed receipt you can send to your insurance company yourself. Many PPO plans pay back part of the cost under out-of-network benefits. Below I explain why I work this way, what my fees are, and how to ask your plan for reimbursement.
Make an Appointment Call (424) 303-8188When a doctor joins an insurance network, the insurance company sets the rules. It decides how much the doctor is paid for each visit, which treatments it will cover, and often how many visits you can have. To stay in business on those payments, many in-network psychiatrists see a new patient every 15 to 20 minutes, and much of that time goes to paperwork and approvals.
That model can work for some kinds of care. For psychiatry, and especially for children and teens, it often doesn't. A careful evaluation takes time. It means talking with parents, meeting the child, reading school reports and past records, and thinking clearly before making a diagnosis or starting a medication.
Initial evaluations last up to 90 minutes for children and teens and up to 60 minutes for adults. Follow-ups are never rushed.
I'm the only provider in my practice. Every visit, from the first evaluation to medication follow-ups, is with me.
Your treatment plan is decided between you and me, based on what you need, not on what an insurance plan approves.
When you pay privately, you decide what information goes to your insurance company and when.
With your permission, I have time to talk with schools, pediatricians and therapists, which matters a lot in child psychiatry.
Because I treat children from age 6, teens and adults, I can care for several members of the same family.
I believe you should know the cost before you book. These are my current fees:
| Child and adolescent initial evaluation | Up to 90 minutes, $1,200 |
| Adult initial evaluation | Up to 60 minutes, $1,000 |
| Follow-up visit | Up to 30 minutes, $400 |
| Psychotherapy session | Up to 50 minutes, $600 |
You'll receive a superbill after every visit. As a private pay patient, you also have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs before care begins. Just ask my office.
A superbill lists everything your insurance company needs: my license and NPI number, the diagnosis and procedure codes, the date of service and what you paid. Here's how to use it:
Questions to ask your insurance:
PPO plans are more likely to include out-of-network benefits than HMO plans. Coverage varies, so I can't promise what your plan will pay, but my office is happy to answer questions about the superbill.

No. My practice is private pay and out of network with all insurance plans. I give you a superbill after each visit so you can ask your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement on your own.
It depends on your plan. Many PPO plans pay back part of the cost once you meet your out-of-network deductible. HMO plans usually don't. Call the number on your insurance card before your first visit and ask about out-of-network mental health benefits.
A superbill is a detailed receipt with the codes and provider information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim. I provide one after every visit, and you submit it to your insurance yourself.
A child or adolescent initial evaluation, up to 90 minutes, is $1,200. An adult initial evaluation, up to 60 minutes, is $1,000. Follow-up visits, up to 30 minutes, are $400, and psychotherapy sessions, up to 50 minutes, are $600.
The first visit is where the diagnosis and plan are built. For children and teens, I meet with parents and the child, review school reports and past records, and explain my findings before you leave. That takes time, and rushing it can lead to the wrong diagnosis.
Yes. Under the federal No Surprises Act, private pay patients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before care begins. Ask my office when you book, and we'll provide one in writing.
